Overview

As an Overhead Line Design Engineer, you will contribute to delivering a diverse OHL project portfolio across the UK, guiding the full design lifecycle and producing compliant technical documentation. You will work with civil, structural and other disciplines to ensure integrated, safe designs aligned with UK standards. You will leverage PLS-CADD to develop new designs and adapt existing assets, shaping the UK’s transmission infrastructure. This role offers collaboration across multidisciplinary teams and opportunities to influence technical direction within our T&D practice.

Responsibilities

• Develop OHL design criteria
• Select conductor, structure type and foundations
• Perform insulation coordination and lightning studies
• Produce core OHL deliverables (line schedules, plan and profile drawings, staking tables, special crossings)
• Conduct feasibility studies evaluating technical and economic viability
• Collaborate with civil, structural and other disciplines to ensure safe, integrated designs

Key requirements

• Experience as an Overhead Line Design Engineer or in a closely related T&D role
• Strong capability in PLS-CADD for new build and modification projects
• Solid understanding of UK OHL design standards and requirements
• Experience in consultancy, design & build contractor, or asset owner environments
• Exposure to HV plant, HV cable design, or T&D civil design desired
• Ability to manage OHL delivery and workloads across multiple projects
