Overview
In this role you will diagnose and prevent equipment issues on automated surface finish machinery, driving reliability and quality. You’ll lead fault-finding, maintenance and continuous improvement in a fast-paced manufacturing environment, collaborating with cross-functional teams to optimise performance. The position offers autonomy to apply judgment on automation challenges and contribute to safer, smarter operations. You will develop technical capability across the team and influence production outcomes with data-informed decisions.
Responsibilities
- Lead responses to production equipment breakdowns and provide secondary support for infrastructure.
- Diagnose and resolve faults across mechanical, electrical, electronic, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
- Deliver planned preventive maintenance and condition-based monitoring.
- Improve cycle time, equipment availability and product quality with practical solutions.
- Support equipment changes, commissioning, buy-off activities and process projects.
- Develop TPM and autonomous maintenance through feedback and improvements.
- Coach technicians and production staff on maintenance practices and equipment knowledge.
- Ensure compliance with health & safety, environmental, COSHH, lock-off and statutory requirements.
Key requirements
- Working knowledge of PLCs, robotics and machine-specific control systems.
- Recognised, time-served apprenticeship or equivalent practical training.
- Qualification such as HNC, City & Guilds Level 3 or NVQ Level 3, or comparable experience.
- Experience in technical maintenance, automated manufacturing or production engineering.
- Strong fault-finding across mechanical, electrical, electronic and control systems.
- Structured problem-solving approach and ability to make sound decisions under pressure.
- Strong IT skills and commitment to safe working and continuous improvement.
- Clear communication with production teams, engineers, suppliers and contractors.
- Structured problem-solving and data-informed decision-making.
- Collaborative, proactive mindset with coaching ability.
