Director Middle Market Direct Lending

Overview

In this role you will originate and execute sponsor-driven Middle Market leveraged finance transactions for MUFG in the UK and Europe, acting as deal captain to structure Term Loans and Unitranche facilities. You will build and maintain a strong PE network, lead end-to-end deal execution, and collaborate across internal teams to manage risk and deliver high-quality outcomes. The position offers exposure to cross-functional collaboration and a broad scope within leveraged finance. You will directly contribute to MUFG’s growth in the private equity mid-market and reinforce long-term client relationships.

Responsibilities

• Drive profitable deal flow from the private equity Mid-Market community in EMEA
• Develop and maintain a strong network of PE relationships to originate business across MM Direct Lending and related products, focusing on the UK
• Collaborate with PE Sponsor Coverage to identify target clients not currently served by the bank
• Lead deal execution to ensure high-quality transaction delivery, risk management and client satisfaction
• Negotiate terms and documentation for leveraged finance transactions in the Mid-Market, coordinating with Leveraged Capital Markets
• Support risk management of onboarded assets with Portfolio Management, driving incremental revenue and cross-selling
• Coordinate with credit, sponsor coverage, leveraged capital markets, FI coverage, corporate coverage, compliance and audit to promote Leveraged Finance strategy and team integrity
• Support LF leadership in developing junior team members

Key requirements

• Extensive experience leading sponsor-backed leveraged finance transactions in the UK Middle Market
• Strong deal sourcing network in the UK Middle Market (EBITDA 20-50m)
• Experience in banking or debt fund environments
• Proven ability to lead leveraged finance/direct lending transactions in the UK
• Solid credit analysis, cash flow modelling and documentary negotiation skills
• Strong relationships with Private Equity capital markets teams in the UK
• Excellent presentation and negotiation skills
