Tax Manager (R&D Tax Relief)

Overview

Description We are looking for an experienced and detail oriented R&D Tax Manager to work remotely and oversee a portfolio of clients, ensuring the smooth processing of claims from inception to submission.

Location: Remote | Department: Corporate Tax

The role is remote-based, operating as part of Sumer Northern Ireland, with responsibility for servicing clients across Great Britain. You will lead a team, manage workflows, ensure compliance with R&D criteria, and maintain high-quality reporting standards. You will also engage with clients, deliver educational seminars, improve record-keeping processes, and handle HMRC enquiries.

Responsibilities

• Manage portfolio of clients from inception to review
• Ensure smooth processing of jobs from information collection through to submission
• Organise workflow to ensure prompt completion of jobs
• Manage team throughout the R&D process and ensure deadlines are met
• Organise educational seminars with clients and present either in person or via Teams
• Work with clients to improve their record keeping and approach
• Interview clients with junior staff and ensure all R&D criteria are being met
• Deal with any HMRC enquiries that may arise
• Ensure reports are complete and of a high standard before final review by Senior Tax Manager/Director
• Assist in the training of junior staff
• Business Development

Skills, Knowledge & Expertise

• Demonstrable experience of R&D tax relief
• Excellent report writing skills
• Comfortable in client facing role
• Up to date knowledge of relevant legislation and case law
• Experience of working as part of a team and managing staff
• Able to manage both staff and jobs to ensure all relevant deadlines are met
