Principal Commissioning Engineer

Overview

As Principal Operations Engineer, you lead a team of engineers to plan and execute offshore pre-commissioning for pipelines and umbilicals, aligning with project goals and safety standards. You partner with field and marine teams to develop methodologies and coordinate subcontracted work, ensuring timely delivery and risk control. You will drive readiness reviews, OPS readiness, and lessons learned to improve future projects. This role offers impact across offshore installations and decommissioning activities in a high-stakes energy context.

Responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate pre-commissioning execution with offshore and onshore teams
• Develop pre-commissioning execution methodologies with Field Engineers
• Manage documentation via Document Deliverable Register and oversight of deliverables
• Select and assemble pre-commissioning and marine spreads
• Review drawings, procedures, risk assessments, scopes of work, and subcontracts
• Coordinate equipment and installation aids, and subcontractor scopes
• Prepare pre-commissioning procedures and approve subcontractor personnel
• Mobilize and demobilize pre-commissioning equipment and vessels
• Resolve technical issues with subcontractors and offshore teams
• Coordinate Readiness review, Constructability, HAZID/HAZOP activities
• Travel to site/offshore as required
• Prepare MOC with Field Engineers support
• Capture and present lessons learned and return of experience
• Train and mentor Field Engineers and Senior Field Engineers
• Set team goals to meet project KPIs
• Align pre-commissioning methodologies with Technical Authority
• Manage pre-commissioning subcontracts
• Support internal initiatives and variation orders
• Oversee budget performance, risk management and cost control
• Lead SIMOPS management
• Maintain interfaces across disciplines and project teams
• Support in safety culture and life-saving rules advocacy

Key requirements

• 10+ years in oil & gas with major contractors
• Experience leading a team of 6+ engineers
• General experience in shallow and deepwater installation operations
• Pipelines pre-commissioning and decommissioning experience; 10+ projects
• Umbilical pre-commissioning experience; 6+ projects
• Decommissioning and isolation knowledge
• Hybrid work eligibility and site/offshore presence as needed
