Head of Payroll & HR

Overview

In this role you will lead and develop the payroll and HR function within a global construction business. You will manage a medium-to-large team responsible for paying around 6,000 employees across varying frequencies, driving continuous improvement and efficient processes. You will guide compliance with employment laws and support group reporting, while delivering leadership development and strategic HR/payroll initiatives. This is a high-impact position that shapes payroll and HR practices at scale, supporting cross-functional projects and transformation.

Responsibilities

• Lead, manage and develop the payroll and HR team
• Develop and implement efficient payroll processes and procedures
• Provide strategic input and drive continuous improvement
• Support group reporting and key stakeholder communication
• Provide leadership development opportunities for the payroll team
• Ensure compliance with employment laws and advise on best practice

Key requirements

• UK in-house payroll legislation knowledge
• Strong leadership qualities with ability to motivate and inspire
• Experience developing and retaining staff
• Experience managing medium to large payroll and HR teams
• Experience with HR projects, HR policies and employment law
