Overview

As Senior Counsel, Employment and Labor, you will provide strategic legal guidance on UK and global employment matters, partnering with People teams to translate complex rules into practical guidance. You’ll draft and negotiate key employment documents, manage claims and outside counsel, and shape global compliance programs. The role blends advisory work with risk management in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment. You’ll impact the HR policy framework and support cross-functional initiatives that drive Roku’s growth and responsible employment practices.

Responsibilities

  • Advise People teams on hiring, performance, grievances, investigations, redundancies, reorganizations, and wage-hour compliance
  • Counsel on agency workers, contractors, accommodations, leaves, privacy, data security, benefits, TUPE, and works councils
  • Develop and maintain global employment and labor framework, including handbooks and policies
  • Research and monitor legislation; implement proactive compliance and risk mitigation
  • Review contracts with third-party providers and internal practices for contingent workers
  • Draft and negotiate employment agreements, notices, and settlement documents
  • Advise on complex employment matters and facilitate pre-dispute resolutions
  • Manage employment-related claims and litigation globally; oversee outside counsel and settlements
  • Assist with employee training programs
  • Support additional legal projects and initiatives as needed

Key requirements

  • 6+ years post-qualification experience in employment and labor matters
  • Deep knowledge of UK employment and labor law; exposure to other EMEA or India preferred
  • Prior in-house legal experience preferred
  • Experience advising in technology, entertainment, or content production industries preferred
  • Strong proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint)
