Overview

As Legal Counsel in the UK Commercial Legal team, you will provide proactive legal guidance to the UK business (AIG UK and Talbot) within GLCR, supporting growth while managing regulatory risk. You will collaborate with GLCR COEs and cross-functional partners to shape commercial and regulatory outcomes. The role offers exposure to diverse matters—from product and distribution to contracts—while developing templates, training, and efficient legal services delivery. You will influence risk-aware decision-making in a fast-paced, office-based environment.

Responsibilities

  • Provide proactive legal advice to the UK business on product, non-claims disputes, agency and distribution matters
  • Negotiate, draft and review a range of agreements (Delegated Underwriting, Terms of Business, Broker Engagements, Facilities, Claims Handling)
  • Build relationships with stakeholders and coordinate with COEs on regulatory, compliance, governance, employment, litigation, reinsurance, product underwriting and data/digital issues in the UK
  • Develop and review precedent documents, know-how, templates and provide training to the business
  • Monitor and inform the business of relevant legal and regulatory developments
  • Assist with streamlining the delivery of legal services to the UK business
  • Manage external law firms to ensure high-quality, cost-effective services, panel adherence, and alignment with business goals

Key requirements

  • Qualified solicitor with experience at a law firm or global (re)insurer
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
