Energy Analyst

Overview

In this role you analyse UK power and flexibility markets, build and run models to assess the value and performance of flexibility assets, and identify commercial opportunities and risks. You will support optimisation strategies for BESS and demand response, and present insights to clients and internal stakeholders. You translate complex market analysis into actionable recommendations and collaborate with Product, Commercial and Operations to shape offerings. This role supports a global energy business expanding in battery storage, demand response and energy optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Analyse UK power and flexibility markets, market design changes and competitive dynamics to identify opportunities and risks
• Develop, maintain and run commercial and analytical models for flexibility assets (BESS, demand-side response, distributed generation)
• Evaluate trading and optimisation strategies across wholesale, Balancing Mechanism and ancillary services markets
• Present market analyses, valuations and modelling outputs to clients and internal stakeholders
• Translate complex analysis into clear, actionable commercial recommendations
• Collaborate with Product, Commercial and Operations teams to support optimisation strategies and commercial decision-making

Key requirements

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Economics, Mathematics, Finance, Energy Systems or related discipline
• 3+ years’ experience in UK energy markets, preferably in flexibility, BESS, trading, optimisation or route-to-market
• Strong understanding of UK wholesale electricity market, Balancing Mechanism and ancillary services
• Experience with energy market modelling, simulations or optimisation frameworks
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to turn market insights into actionable recommendations
• Confident communicating complex analytical outputs to clients and senior stakeholders
• Proficiency in Excel, Python and/or Power BI
• Experience with battery optimisation, route-to-market strategies and revenue stacking (advantageous)
