Materials Science Manager Skelmersdale Salary dependent on experience

The role: AIS is looking for a Materials Science Manager to lead the Materials Technologist team by providing technical leadership in the evaluation and application of material technologies to support business objectives, innovation and operational performance.

What will you do as our Materials Science Manager:

  • Lead and develop the Materials Technologist team, providing technical leadership, coaching and performance management
  • Develop and implement materials technology strategies that support business objectives, innovation and operational performance
  • Provide expert technical guidance on materials, processes and applications across the business
  • Lead material testing, qualification and failure investigation activities, ensuring robust and effective technical solutions
  • Collaborate with the wider Group Material Development teams to align technical priorities, share best practice and support strategic materials initiatives
  • Build and maintain effective relationships with customers, suppliers, universities and industry partners to support technical and commercial objectives
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives that enhance product performance, manufacturing capability and operational efficiency
  • Identify emerging technologies, industry trends and innovation opportunities that support future business growth and competitive advantage
  • Ensure compliance with relevant standards, regulations, quality requirements and company procedures.
  • Carry out any other reasonable duties as required by the business

What are we looking for in our Materials Science Manager:

  • Proven experience in a materials science, polymer science or related technical leadership role
  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with the ability to develop high-performing technical teams
  • Technical expertise in polymers, composites, elastomers or other advanced material systems
  • Strong knowledge of material testing, qualification and failure analysis techniques
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to translate technical knowledge into practical business solutions
  • Proven ability to lead technical projects and deliver results within agreed timescales and budgets
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical audiences
  • Ability to develop and deliver technical strategies aligned to business objectives
  • Customer-focused with a commitment to innovation, quality and continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of relevant industry standards, regulations and compliance requirements
