Overview

In this role, you will lead the pre-construction process for a regional portfolio of education projects, from tender through contract award. You will collaborate with clients, consultants, and the supply chain to shape the bid strategy, construction methodology, and risk-aware approaches. Based in London, you will drive cross-functional alignment and ensure profitable, compliant tenders. The position offers visibility across regional bids and a meaningful impact on BAM’s sustainable-built environment. You will operate in a collaborative, client-focused culture that values proactive problem-solving.

Responsibilities

  • Develop bid strategies and own bid submissions from start to finish
  • Coordinate bid writers, manage tender resources, and highlight differentiators
  • Lead bid meetings and liaise with bid managers and writers
  • Plan tender delivery programme, budgets, governance, and progress monitoring
  • Assess project constraints by visiting proposed sites and meeting clients/designers
  • Identify consultants, designers, and supply chain partners to support bids
  • Engage clients, designers, and supply chain when developing design and methodology
  • Prepare presentation materials for mid-term and post-tender interviews
  • Manage second stage tender through to contract award
  • Visit live sites to learn and inform future tenders
  • Support national and inter-regional bids and initiatives

Key requirements

  • Ability to lead a preconstruction team with coordinated design, commercial, planning, and construction disciplines
  • Understanding of influencing health and safety during tenders
  • Excellent client and consultant communication to align offers and add value
  • Confidence to challenge methodology, sequencing, commercial, programme and design aspects
  • Strong project/construction management skills
  • Strong analytical, organisational, commercial, verbal and written communication skills
  • Experience in collating and writing tender content
  • MS Office proficiency (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)
  • Degree qualification or equivalent and CIOB or equivalent
