EMEA Commodities Legal Counsel – Markets – Executive Director

Overview

In this role you will provide senior legal coverage to JPMorganChase’s EMEA Commodities business, delivering strategic, commercially focused advice across energy, metals and related markets. You will shape the legal framework for growth, support complex transactions, and collaborate with cross-functional teams to manage risk and regulatory change. You will act as a trusted adviser on derivatives, physical trading and structured financing, helping the business execute with governance and control. This is an opportunity to influence the expansion of gas and power capabilities in EMEA within a global legal function.

Responsibilities

• Provide senior strategic legal support across energy, metals, oil, gas, power, emissions and related activities in EMEA
• Lead legal structuring, negotiation, and execution of complex derivatives, financing, and physical trading transactions
• Advise on novel transaction structures while balancing commercial goals with regulatory frameworks
• Draft and oversee key trading documentation including EFET agreements and bespoke contracts
• Offer subject-matter expertise on applicable laws, regulations, and industry standards
• Collaborate with Markets, Legal, Risk, Compliance, Finance, Operations and external counsel as needed
• Monitor legal developments and govern risk, escalating issues through governance forums
• Support expansion of gas and power capabilities in EMEA with regulatory and licensing guidance

Key requirements

• 10+ years’ PQE as a qualified lawyer in a leading law firm or in-house, ideally in a bank or commodities-focused institution
• Strong transactional background with experience in commodities derivatives, physical trading, and structured commodity financing
• Excellent communication and drafting/negotiation skills
• Ability to partner with Sales & Trading, senior stakeholders and control functions
• Strong organizational, analytical and time-management skills
