Overview

In this role you will lead the planning, design, delivery, monitoring, commissioning and close-out of substation projects. You will ensure safe, on-time and within-budget delivery while coordinating multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders. You will drive risk management, quality, and commercial control, and promote digital tools to enhance project delivery. This position offers the chance to shape major infrastructure projects that support national energy networks and communities. You will work in a safety-first, collaborative environment that values continuous improvement and Zero Harm.

Responsibilities

  • Plan and oversee substation projects from inception to close-out
  • Ensure safety, sustainability, on-time delivery and budget adherence
  • Manage project teams including engineers and site managers
  • Oversee governance, reporting and stakeholder engagement
  • Lead risk/issue/opportunity management and maintain risk registers
  • Manage subcontractors and supply chain performance to meet contracts
  • Monitor quality standards and drive continuous improvement
  • Establish robust project controls, resource planning and change management
  • Oversee commercial management, cost control and contract administration
  • Promote digital innovation and use of digital tools in delivery

Key requirements

  • Proven experience delivering major infrastructure, utilities or substation projects
  • Track record of successful project delivery
  • Strong understanding of project and commercial management principles
  • Experience managing multi-disciplinary teams and stakeholders
  • Excellent communication and leadership skills
  • Experience implementing and managing safe systems of work
  • Solution-focused with strong problem-solving abilities
  • Ability to inspire and develop high-performing teams
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365
  • Full UK Driving Licence
  • Membership of a professional body (e.g., APM) or working towards it
