Overview
In this 24-month development programme, you will retrain to become a Power System Engineer, starting with a 10-week specialist training and then three placement rotations across planning and operational teams. You will work on power system studies, simulation workflows, and network performance assessments to support low-carbon generation integration in the north of Scotland. The role combines hands-on technical training with real‑world engineering recommendations within SSEN Transmission. This is an opportunity to shape the grid for a cleaner, reliable energy future while working with cross‑functional teams.

Responsibilities
- Carry out system studies and technical assessments for the Transmission network
- Assess network performance and options to maintain or enhance capability
- Support System Performance, System Engineering & Investment teams and Transmission Control Centre with engineering recommendations
- Conduct simulations and studies (power flow, fault level, voltage/thermal, transient stability, harmonic/power quality) for licence and Grid Code compliance
- Ensure accurate modelling of the SSEN Transmission system and data for detailed steady state and dynamic analysis
- Develop skills to prioritise technical problems and design/development portfolios
Key requirements
- MEng in Engineering (or equivalent)
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Ability to manage and prioritise multiple tasks
- Enthusiasm for team integration and developing into a Power System Engineer
- Excellent communication, time-management and organisational skills
- Basic understanding of power system fundamentals and network analysis
- Previous graduate programme or professional experience (desirable)
