Overview

In this role you support a Band 1 ranked planning practice by delivering high-quality knowledge and research support for major development projects. You will develop precedents, manage know-how, and lead training and innovation initiatives while collaborating with fee earners across the UK. The position blends knowledge management with advisory work, and may include hands-on planning work for scope and experience. You will help shape how the team delivers planning, DCOs, and related high-stakes projects.

Responsibilities

  • Knowledge management: collect, maintain and organize planning know-how
  • Draft and update precedents, styles and technical guidance
  • Research and advisory support for major development and infrastructure projects
  • Support work on DCOs, compulsory purchase, planning applications, appeals, marine licences, EIA/HRA, highways, judicial review, due diligence
  • Develop and oversee training programmes and deliver where required
  • Support business development, marketing content and publications
  • Lead innovation and AI initiatives within the Planning team
  • Collaborate with Knowledge Counsel colleagues and fee earners across the UK
  • Possible portion of fee earning work to maintain hands-on planning experience

Key requirements

  • Qualified solicitor with strong planning team experience
  • Demonstrable interest in knowledge, research, innovation and business development
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Strong academic background
