Overview
As an Automation Engineer, you will provide frontline maintenance and rapid fault resolution for automated equipment across the site, including the ColdStore. You will diagnose electrical, control and mechanical faults to minimise downtime and support production flow while working with Engineering, Operations and suppliers. The role combines hands-on troubleshooting with planned maintenance and improvement projects to boost equipment reliability and performance. Responsibilities
- Prioritise safety and report hazards during all activities
- Work in line with food safety, GMP and site engineering standards
- Respond to automation breakdowns and communicate progress clearly
- Fault-find PLC-controlled systems, HMIs, sensors, drives and associated equipment
- Support the automated ColdStore and collaborate with site teams and suppliers
- Complete planned maintenance and inspections, document results and actions
- Identify repeat failures, support root cause analysis and implement practical improvements
- Support automation projects, hardware changes, commissioning and return to service
Key requirements
- Time served craft apprenticeship or equivalent training to NVQ level 3
- Multi-skilled or actively pursuing qualification
- Team player with excellent communication skills
- Hands-on, can-do approach and flexible work style
