Overview

In this role you drive commercial performance for major UK rail and transport programmes within the PMCM Rail team. You will work with clients, suppliers and delivery partners to govern budgets, risk, and procurement, shaping commercial strategy and ensuring contract compliance. You’ll engage across project lifecycles to resolve issues, optimise cost control, and support governance. This is a client-facing, problem-solving role that contributes to landmark infrastructure outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain client and stakeholder relationships with commercial advisory support
  • Prepare monthly commercial, cost and risk reports to inform project decisions
  • Support commercial management in line with contractual and client governance requirements
  • Manage project budgets, cost forecasting, tracking and reporting
  • Support procurement activities including reviewing and negotiating terms
  • Contribute to supply chain management and promote collaboration
  • Ensure compliance with client commercial procedures and standards
  • Review project expenditure, invoices and commercial submissions
  • Participate in commercial meetings with contractors and delivery partners
  • Administer contracts throughout the lifecycle from award to close-out
  • Support management of change events including variations and claims
  • Monitor contract performance and assist with resolving commercial issues
  • Undertake financial forecasting and support risk identification and mitigation
  • Support resource planning to achieve commercial and programme objectives
  • Identify and manage commercial risks and support early warning and mitigation

Key requirements

  • A degree in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management or related discipline
  • Professional accreditation or progression toward MRICS or MCIOB
  • Experience in commercial management within rail or wider infrastructure
  • Experience delivering infrastructure projects in client, contractor or consultancy environments
  • Knowledge of organisations like Network Rail, HS2, TfGM is advantageous
  • Track record of delivering successful commercial outcomes on infrastructure projects
  • Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
  • Proficiency in commercial management systems, tools and software
  • Good understanding of NEC3 and NEC4 contracts and commercial principles
  • Proactive problem-solving, risk management and continuous improvement mindset
