Senior Software Engineer – Global KYC and Onboarding

Overview

In this Senior Software Engineer role, you own large, impactful projects within the KYC/Onboarding domain. You’ll shape the technical roadmap for scalable backend systems and reusable APIs, ensuring reliability, security, and regulatory compliance. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to reduce barriers for customers and enable Wise to scale its verification capabilities globally. You’ll drive cross-team initiatives, mentor engineers, and push for data-driven decisions that improve customer experience and operations.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical roadmap for areas of ownership, addressing debt, reliability, scalability, and security
• Design and implement robust backend systems with clean APIs
• Integrate with risk and mitigation systems to ensure compliance
• Identify and solve impactful problems within the team and in cross-team initiatives
• Lead the technical delivery of large-scale, complex projects
• Mentor engineers and promote best coding practices and reviews

Key requirements

• 4+ years of software engineering experience
• Experience with any programming language
• Experience with asynchronous message queues (e.g., Kafka, RabbitMQ)
• Architected and built highly scalable microservices
• Strong product mindset and focus on customer experience and regulatory compliance
• Data-driven decision making and ability to solve complex, ambiguous problems
• Excellent communication skills for diverse audiences
• Proven ability to deliver large-scale, organizationally complex projects
• Extensive experience with relational and non-relational databases, including optimization and data lifecycle management
