Overview

In this role you will drive mechanical design for Scotland’s water projects, delivering feasible, detailed designs and construction support within a multidisciplinary team. You’ll shape scalable water and wastewater solutions, collaborating with civil, electrical, and process engineers to meet client needs and regional sustainability goals. You’ll contribute to design reviews and mentorship, ensuring high-quality outputs and alignment with net-zero targets. This is a hands-on, impact-focused senior position with a clear pathway to Chartered status and leadership opportunities.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare feasibility studies, outline and detailed design, and construction support
  • Produce plant layouts, drawings, and mechanical specifications including WIMES data sheets, valve and equipment schedules, lifting strategies, hydraulic headloss, and P&IDs
  • Collaborate with water, civil, electrical, process and mechanical teams nationwide
  • Visit sites for surveys and liaise with clients, contractors and suppliers
  • Participate in design reviews such as HAZOPs, HAZIDs, ALMs, and SWIFTS
  • Line manage and mentor junior engineers
  • Review and check mechanical deliverables produced by others

Key requirements

  • Bachelor in Mechanical Engineering (or equivalent)
  • Progress towards Chartered Engineer status (e.g., IMechE)
  • Proven ability to deliver engineering designs, reports, drawings, specifications, and calculations
  • Hands-on experience delivering water and wastewater projects
