Health and Safety Lead

Overview

In this role you will shape and lead Hiscox’s global health and safety framework. You’ll provide strategic oversight across multiple jurisdictions, ensuring legal compliance, risk mitigation and consistent HSMS standards. As the senior H&S expert, you’ll influence senior stakeholders and drive the GATES network, aligning policies, training, audits and incident processes with business needs. You’ll partner with internal teams and suppliers to strengthen resilience.

Responsibilities

• Fulfill the UK statutory requirement for a competent person to provide health and safety advice to the Hiscox organisation.
• Advise senior management, Board and Business Unit Owners on H&S compliance, risk mitigation and liability considerations.
• Design, update and implement the Hiscox Group HSMS.
• Lead the international GATES network responsible for H&S across offices and jurisdictions.
• Lead or assist in the management of third‑party suppliers involved in H&S activities.
• Collaborate with Learning and Development to design and roll out H&S training across the Group.
• Create and implement incident reporting, recording and investigation systems compliant with local laws.
• Design and deliver an audit programme to provide Board confidence in legal compliance and HSMS implementation.

Key requirements

• Ten years’ experience in a senior H&S role
• NEBOSH Diploma or equivalent
• Significant international H&S management experience
• Strong understanding of the commercial context for Hiscox
• Ability to connect, consult and advise across the organisation
