Overview
In this role, you lead the design of data centre electrical systems within WSP’s Mission Critical Facilities team, leveraging large-scale power distribution expertise to deliver compliant, high-performance solutions. You collaborate with clients and cross-functional teams to shape concept designs from HV to LV, document options, and supervise installation to meet safety and project standards. You will be involved in UK/EMEA projects for colocation providers, end users, and enterprise clients, contributing to a globally connected engineering culture. Responsibilities
- Develop conceptual electrical distribution designs from EHV to LV including HV equipment, generation, UPS, switchgear, and power monitoring systems
- Provide advisory input to clients on electrical system options to meet business needs
- Lead the design of data centre electrical systems and equipment
- Produce design development notes and technical specifications; ensure standards compliance
- Coordinate with Architects and Structural engineers; prepare tender calculations and equipment documentation
- Monitor installation to ensure compliance with employer requirements and safety codes
- Engage in client-facing discussions to capture requirements and align solutions
- Work autonomously and with WSP’s global project team
Key requirements
- Chartered status with CIBSE or IET (or working towards) or equivalent experience
- Technical knowledge of UK & EU electrical design regulations and guides
- IT literacy with familiarity of Trimble (Amtech) software
- Experience with ETAP for HV modelling (fault currents, harmonics)
- Knowledge of Neher-McGrath method for underground cable temperatures & ampacity
- Understanding of Uptime Institute tiers, TIA942 and EN50600
- Ability to lead and mentor; team collaboration skills
- Experience with RevitMEP and AutoCAD for project work
- Large Power (11kV) distribution systems, standby generation and UPS, fire/voice alarm and security systems
