Lead Data Scientist – KYC/Onboarding

Overview

As Technical Lead Data Scientist for the KYC and Onboarding team, you own the ML lifecycle to support document verification and risk mitigation. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate data science into measurable impact on onboarding experiences. You’ll scale model development, steward datasets, and mentor others to raise data science standards. This role directly advances Wise’s mission by making onboarding faster, safer, and more cost-efficient.

Responsibilities

• Plan and contribute to data science projects with cross-functional partners
• Identify opportunities to apply ML/data science to KYC processes
• Communicate value, limitations, and impact of data science initiatives to stakeholders
• Manage and create large image and tabular datasets for KYC
• Iterate on deep learning image models
• Measure and optimize ML model performance
• Maintain a large Python codebase with best practices
• Stay current with ML advances and explore production-ready ideas
• Research document verification to prevent criminal activity
• Mentor junior team members and promote data science skill growth

Key requirements

• Experience with ML model lifecycle (training, testing, evaluation, deployment)
