Overview
As Lead Project Engineer, you will provide technical leadership to integrar, assure, and deliver railway systems on a major national programme. You will collaborate with design, construction and delivery teams to resolve challenges and ensure safe, compliant integration across disciplines. The role combines systems engineering, risk management and governance to meet client requirements and industry standards. You will influence technical decisions and drive innovation in a safety-focused, multidisciplinary environment. Responsibilities
- Lead engineering and technical assurance activities within your discipline
- Review designs and submissions for compliance with requirements, standards, and regulations
- Support governance and assurance at key milestones
- Manage technical risks, issues, changes, and engineering queries
- Coordinate complex interfaces between railway systems and adjacent contracts
- Provide expert technical advice to teams and senior stakeholders
- Support discharge of Principal Designer responsibilities under CDM Regulations
- Champion innovation and continuous improvement across engineering delivery
- Balance technical, programme, and cost considerations with commercial and delivery teams
- Support transition from design/construction through testing, commissioning and handover
Key requirements
- Significant experience in rail systems or major infrastructure projects
- Experience delivering technical assurance and managing interfaces
- Strong understanding of UK engineering standards and CDM Regulations
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to influence stakeholders and communicate technical information clearly
- Experience balancing engineering, programme, cost and delivery priorities
- Chartered Engineer status (or equivalent) with a recognised professional institution
