Automation Engineer

Overview

In this role you ensure automated systems run optimally across Amazon’s EU Controls network, enhancing equipment availability and uptime. You’ll analyse data from control systems to sensors, implement improvements, and support cross-site deployment of new equipment. You’ll collaborate with multiple departments to document systems and maintain backups, while leading or contributing to continuous improvement initiatives. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role at the forefront of Amazon’s automation tech and reliability engineering mindset.

Responsibilities

• Monitor, troubleshoot and repair key systems
• Collaborate with EU Controls network to monitor MHE metrics
• Provide data visualisations of troubleshooting to internal stakeholders
• Own or participate in continuous improvement projects within EU Controls
• Document systems and maintain accurate backup libraries across departments
• Install and commission new equipment with global colleagues
• Support other sites in the EU Controls network as needed
• Interpret mechanical and electrical drawings and develop improvement strategies compliant with IEC 61131-3
• Lead or contribute to on-site automation reliability improvements

Key requirements

• Experience with PLC controlled automation and issue diagnosis in continuous production environments
• Experience supporting conveyors and sortation systems
• Experience visualizing and monitoring material handling, flow and capacity
• Experience with computer/web-based tools
• Experience using MS Project, MS Office, and MS SharePoint
• Experience with Ladder Logic and structure programming (Siemens, Allen-Bradley, or Codesys PLCs)
• Experience with Ignition SCADA or similar platform and HMI
• Experience with HMI systems, industrial networks, VFDs, servo controllers
• Proficient English communication (written and verbal)
• Knowledge of EthernetIP, Profinet, Profibus and AS-i or other fieldbus networks
