Data Platform Support Engineer

Overview

In this role you will lead the upgrade, maintenance and ongoing support of Data Platform technologies to meet BAE Systems standards. You will monitor and optimise platform performance, reliability and availability within Shared Services Data & Analytics. You’ll represent the team in internal projects, driving continuous improvement and enabling leakage-free service delivery. You will collaborate with architects, developers and IM&T to ensure smooth transitions and adoption of new capabilities. This is a hybrid, cross-functional role that shapes enterprise data platforms and supports business objectives with measurable impact.

Responsibilities

• Provide day-to-day operational support for data platforms and analytics environments, monitoring health, performance, availability and capacity
• Engage with internal and external suppliers to meet service levels and quality standards
• Lead advanced problem-solving for data platform incidents and problem management with developers
• Provide technical leadership and promote best practices across Data Platform technologies
• Develop and promote new functionality to broaden platform use across the organization
• Support architects and development teams with future Data Platform deliverables and service transition
• Document and transfer critical Data Platform skills to other teams to broaden internal capability
• Collaborate with IM&T and Shared Services D&A Architecture to comply with IT policy and governance

Key requirements

• Understanding of data warehouses, data lakes, lakehouses and analytical data platforms
• Data-driven mindset with experience in solving data-related issues
• Experience with Linux OS and Windows OS servers
• SQL skills for troubleshooting, data validation and performance analysis
• Understanding of data ingestion, transformation and orchestration
• Experience with one or more data platform technologies such as QLIK Replicate, SOLIX Archiving, Colibri, TIBCO DV, Master Data Management Semarchy, Alation, SSIS, Alteryx
