Overview
In this role you will serve as a Consultant Psychiatrist within Rampton Hospital’s Mental Health Service, contributing to risk-focused assessment and care for mentally disordered offenders. You join a multidisciplinary team to manage a caseload of around 20 patients, with potential for academic/research sessions. You will drive clinical governance, teaching, and service development while coordinating with courts, managers, and external bodies. This is a pivotal position shaping secure mental health care within a high-security trust.

Responsibilities
- Assess individuals referred for admission or opinion within Rampton Hospital and linked units
- Act as Care Programme Approach Co-ordinator and oversee treatment plans
- Chair clinical team meetings, CPA meetings, and MDT leadership
- Provide timely reports to Tribunals, Hospital Managers, MOJ, Courts
- Liaise with medium secure units, prisons, Commissioners and MOJ on patient care pathways
- Chair Section 117 meetings
- Engage in personal development and annual appraisal; undertake supervision
- Contribute to supervision and training of staff within the team
- Comply with Trust policies, including safeguarding
- Undertake clinical audits
- Participate in clinical governance, quality assurance and service development
- Share administrative duties and provide information/data for service management
- Be an active member of medical staffing structures
- Provide clinical and managerial supervision to non-consultant doctors
Key requirements
- Fully registered with the GMC with licence to practise
- CCT/CCST or eligibility for Specialist Register in Forensic Psychiatry
- Approved Clinician status
- Section 12(2) approval
- Enhanced DBS clearance
- Membership of the Royal College of Psychiatrists preferred (equivalent qualifications considered)
- Valid UK driving licence or alternative arrangements
