Technical Director Mine Waste Engineering

Overview

As Technical Director in the mine waste team, you will lead tailings and waste rock facility design from concept to construction and act as Engineer of Record. You will manage projects, mentor colleagues, and help grow the team and client base across Europe and beyond. You will collaborate with multi-disciplinary experts, pursue industry leadership through initiatives and publications, and elevate SLR’s profile in mine waste engineering.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design of tailings and waste rock facilities from concept through construction
• Act as Engineer of Record for tailings facilities
• Manage projects and support cross-disciplinary delivery within the mining group
• Identify and drive opportunities for new business and team capability development
• Assist in recruitment and selection of key talent
• Collaborate with Mine Waste teams in other regions to deliver global projects
• Develop client relationships and network to grow the business
• Build reputation and leadership in the sector and contribute to industry initiatives
• Publish technical papers and present at conferences to increase visibility

Key requirements

• Extensive tailings and mine waste experience, preferably in a consulting environment
• Experience leading multi-disciplinary design teams from concept to detailed design
• Proven track record as Engineer of Record and Designer of Record
• Experience in independent auditing and dam safety reviews
• Strong interpersonal, presentation, and report writing skills
• Sound commercial sense and business development ability
• Working knowledge of mining standards such as GISTM, ANCOLD, CDA
• Registered Chartered (or equivalent Professional Engineer status) or eligible to register
