Overview
In this role you will own the AI & Automation product area within the Retail UK & Ireland Product team, shaping strategy and delivering AI-powered capabilities across the insurance customer journey. You will collaborate with engineering, UX/UI, Compliance and market leaders to translate opportunities into shipped products and value realisation. The role supports Howden’s 2030 vision of technology-enabled growth, driving faster delivery and reduced manual effort for branch teams while improving customer outcomes. You will lead cross-functional transformation programmes and build practical AI propositions that underpin revenue and client value.

Responsibilities
- Own the AI & Automation product strategy and roadmap aligned with priorities
- Identify high-value AI use cases across the insurance lifecycle (document/data extraction, underwriting support, claims triage, CRM automation, agent copilots)
- Translate problems into product requirements and scope feasible solutions
- Conduct structured discovery with field agents, underwriters, and operations teams
- Manage full product lifecycle from discovery to adoption and value realisation
- Lead large AI transformation programmes spanning multiple functions
- Maintain a robust pipeline of AI opportunities and convert demand into initiatives and revenue
- Deliver AI-led engagements with measurable client value and clear success criteria
- Create and champion an AI narrative with practical propositions and flagship use cases
- Equip teams with AI sales tools, demos, business cases, and reusable propositions
- Strengthen external position through thought leadership and evidence of impact
- Leverage AI ecosystem (LLMs, Copilot, cloud platforms) for immediate value
- Ensure investment is driven by client needs and measurable outcomes
- Stay updated on AI capabilities and vendor landscape
- Drive AI adoption and governance, including training and playbooks
- Identify and remove low-value manual work via AI-enabled products
- Align objectives and incentives for responsible AI-led growth and delivery
- Collaborate with Compliance, Legal and Risk on regulatory standards
- Represent AI & Automation workstream in planning and reviews
Key requirements
- 5–7 years’ experience in product management with exposure to AI/automation/data-driven products
- Experience in or with insurance
- Experience delivering complex transformation programmes with commercial/operational outcomes
- Strong stakeholder management with senior stakeholders and cross-functional teams
- Ability to translate AI concepts into business language and product requirements
- Track record of shipping products from discovery to adoption with measurable outcomes
- Commercial mindset with experience building pipelines, business cases or go-to-market propositions
- Excellent written and visual communication, able to produce roadmaps and stakeholder decks
