Overview
In this role, you will lead commercial management on high-value projects and support the Commercial Director as the business expands in the south. You will shape commercial strategies from tender through delivery, while engaging with clients, subcontractors and staff. You’ll actively manage risks, disputes avoidance, and contract issues to protect commercial outcomes. This position offers scope to grow into Commercial Manager as the company scales and undertakes larger private-sector projects.
Responsibilities
- Prepare and agree commercial strategies for projects from tender stage through site delivery
- Challenge the construction process by staying hands-on with projects and staff while contributing at a strategic level
- Assist with managing significant commercial, legal and contractual issues
- Dispute avoidance and analysis of contract issues, risks & opportunities to inform commercial strategy
- Liaise with clients, subcontractors and consultants as required
- Manage and develop commercial staff
Key requirements
- Minimum 5 years experience as a QS or higher on projects > £10M
- Ability to manage an entire project valued over £10M solo
- Ideally degree educated with clear ambition and progression
- Significant private-sector building project experience (commercial, mixed-use, retail, leisure, industrial)
- Aspirations to progress to Commercial Manager
- Interest in dispute avoidance and construction law
- Strong subcontract procurement experience
- Knowledge of JCT/NEC
