About the Role

Our client is seeking a skilled and experienced Maintenance Supervisor to oversee the maintenance and repair of heavy mining equipment for their operations near East London . This leadership role is responsible for managing a team of mechanics and technicians, ensuring that all equipment is maintained to optimal operational standards, minimizing downtime, and maximizing fleet availability. You will play a crucial part in proactive maintenance strategies, budgeting, and ensuring a safe workshop environment. This is a hands‑on supervisory position offering significant responsibility within a vital operational support function.

Key Responsibilities

  • Supervise and coordinate the daily activities of the maintenance team, assigning tasks and monitoring performance.
  • Develop and implement preventative and corrective maintenance schedules for heavy mining equipment (e.g., excavators, trucks, loaders).
  • Ensure all maintenance work is performed safely, efficiently, and to high-quality standards.
  • Manage spare parts inventory and control maintenance costs within budget.
  • Diagnose and troubleshoot complex mechanical and electrical issues.
  • Maintain accurate maintenance records and generate reports on equipment performance and costs.

Requirements

  • Trade qualification in Mechanical or Diesel Engineering, or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in heavy equipment maintenance, with at least 2 years in a supervisory capacity.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and electrical systems common in mining machinery.
  • Experience with CMMS (Computerized Maintenance Management System) software.
  • Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
