Main duties of the job
The Lead Nurse for Education will provide strategic and operational leadership for nursing education across West London Children’s Healthcare (WLCH), ensuring the nursing workforce has the skills, knowledge and competencies to deliver safe, effective and high-quality care.
You will:
- Lead the development, delivery and evaluation of the WLCH Nursing Education Strategy and education programme, aligned to workforce, service, quality and national priorities.
- Provide leadership and line management to the Paediatric Clinical Education Team, ensuring effective and equitable education provision across WLCH.
- Lead workforce development, including induction, preceptorship, continuing professional development, career pathways and talent development.
- Provide strategic oversight of pre and post-registration education, working with Higher Education Institutions to support high-quality placements and positive learning environments.
- Work collaboratively with clinical leaders to identify education and practice-development needs and strengthen clinical competence.
- Translate learning from incidents, complaints, audit and quality improvement into education and improvements in clinical practice.
- Champion innovative approaches to education, including simulation, clinical skills, digital and workplace-based learning.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities
The Lead Nurse for Education is a senior leadership role and is responsible for shaping and delivering nursing education across West London Children’s Healthcare.
The post holder will lead the Paediatric Clinical Education Team and provide strategic leadership for nursing education, clinical learning environments, workforce development and professional development. Working closely with clinical leaders, Higher Education Institutions and education partners, they will ensure learning responds to workforce, quality and service priorities.
The role will champion innovative education, strengthen clinical competence and translate learning from quality and safety into practice, ensuring our nursing workforce is equipped to deliver outstanding care for children and young people.
Education and Qualifications and experience
- Registered Nurse(Child) active on NMC register
- Teaching qualification such as PGCERT in Practice Education or equivalent
- Master’s degree or evidence of working towards
- Extensive experience in clinical practice and clinical education
- Experience in leading, managing and developing education teams
- Experience of working with Higher Education Institutions and external partners
- Understanding of current NHS nursing education, workforce and professional agendas
- Ability to develop and deliver strategic education plans across multiple sites and services
- Experience in education funding and commissioning
