Overview
In this Clinical Pharmacist role at NHS Lanarkshire, you will provide patient-centred pharmaceutical care across medical, surgical, and critical care settings within University Hospital Wishaw. You’ll work within a multidisciplinary team to optimise medicines, support education and service development, and contribute to guidelines, audits, and safety initiatives. The post offers opportunities to teach, mentor, and participate in ward rounds, with potential for outpatient clinic support. You will help shape clinical practice within the four pillars of advanced pharmacy practice and pursue ongoing professional development.

Responsibilities
- Deliver clinical pharmacy services on designated wards/departments across surgery, anaesthetics, and medicine; support perioperative prescribing and MDT collaboration
- Participate in consultant ward rounds and MDT meetings; conduct patient-specific medication reviews
- Supervise and mentor junior pharmacists, foundation trainees, and students; deliver teaching
- Lead or contribute to clinical guideline development, audits, quality improvement projects, and service evaluations
- Support implementation of local/national guidelines; participate in medicines safety initiatives and risk management
- Dispenser and clinical screening duties as required; contribute to weekend and on-call rotas
- Deliver patient education on safe use of medicines and devices; plan and prioritise workload to meet service needs
- Act as designated deputy for Senior Specialist Pharmacist; provide operational support to the pharmacy service
- Participate in the pharmacy emergency duty rota and weekend/public holiday rotas
Key requirements
- Master in Pharmacy
- Registered member of General Pharmaceutical Council
- Independent prescribing qualification or plan to work towards it
- Postgraduate training in clinical pharmacy practice (e.g., Post Registration Foundation Framework/1st year clinical diploma)
- Post-registration clinical pharmacy experience
- Ability to monitor therapeutic regimens to optimise effectiveness and minimise toxicity
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
