Overview

In this role you will support the design and delivery of highways and transportation schemes in the West Midlands, working with a team of engineers to produce high-quality technical outputs. You will develop your capability through feasibility to detailed design stages and coordinate with other disciplines to deliver integrated infrastructure solutions. Responsibilities

  • Assist in the design and development of highways and transportation schemes across feasibility, preliminary, and detailed design stages
  • Produce highways designs, drawings, calculations, and schedules in line with DMRB, Manual for Streets, and local authority requirements
  • Prepare technical information for reports, specifications, and tender documentation
  • Coordinate highways design inputs with drainage, structures, and utilities
  • Respond to technical queries under guidance from Senior Engineers
  • Support construction phases with technical clarifications, site queries, and design updates
  • Carry out design checks and reviews on own work for accuracy and compliance
  • Maintain organized design records, calculations, and technical files
  • Assist with data collection, site visits, surveys, and analyses to inform design
  • Support optioneering and feasibility studies with sketches and comparative assessments
  • Contribute to risk assessments and design risk reviews under supervision
  • Develop proficiency in AutoCAD, Civil 3D, MicroDrainage or similar
  • Actively pursue professional accreditation (EngTech or IEng, path to CEng)
  • Promote safe working practices and good communication within project teams

Key requirements

  • Degree qualified in civil engineering or similar
  • Experience in highways design and delivery across feasibility to detailed design stages
  • Familiarity with design standards (DMRB, Manual for Streets) and local authority requirements
  • Ability to prepare technical information and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams
  • Willingness to develop professional accreditation
