Overview
In this role you will lead design and delivery of mechanical handling systems (cranes, hoists, lifting devices) for complex, highly regulated facilities. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to integrate handling systems across the project lifecycle, from concept to commissioning. You’ll address safety, regulatory and performance requirements while shaping the technical delivery for critical lifting assets. Responsibilities
- Lead design and engineering of mechanical handling systems to meet project, operational and regulatory requirements
- Develop and review technical specifications, calculations, and design documentation through concept to detailed design
- Collaborate with structural, civil, electrical, controls, process and building services teams for integration
- Perform optioneering, load path, heavy-lift assessments, constructability and risk assessments
- Provide technical leadership focusing on safety, quality and delivery
- Support safety cases, engineering justifications, procurement activities, vendor reviews and bid evaluations for safety-significant equipment
- Support testing, inspection, commissioning and acceptance to ensure performance and readiness
- Contribute to reliability, maintainability, inspection and lifecycle requirements for lifting assets across project scope
Key requirements
- Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent experience
- Experience delivering crane, lifting or mechanical handling systems on major infrastructure or highly regulated projects
- Nuclear industry experience or other highly regulated environment
- Experience developing engineering documentation through design phases with safety and regulatory considerations
- Demonstrated technical leadership across multidisciplinary teams
- Strong understanding of mechanical handling equipment and lifting interfaces
- Knowledge of safety-significant equipment, hazard analysis, ALARP, reliability and lifecycle requirements
- Experience with systems engineering, procurement, verification/validation, vendor management, FAT, commissioning
