Overview

In this role you will lead a team of Quantity Surveyors and provide commercial assurance across a diverse portfolio of major projects. You will ensure value for money, contractual compliance, effective cost control and robust governance throughout project lifecycles. You will advise delivery teams, challenge tenders, manage variations and support claims, while reporting to senior stakeholders. This is an opportunity to shape commercial performance within a sizeable function and influence multiple delivery environments.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and develop a team of Quantity Surveyors
  • Provide commercial assurance across a portfolio of major projects and programmes
  • Offer commercial and contractual advice to project teams
  • Review, challenge and negotiate tenders for robust commercial outcomes
  • Certify and process payments per contractual requirements
  • Assess and manage changes, variations, and extensions of time
  • Oversee budgets and expenditure management
  • Collect, analyse and maintain commercial data for reporting
  • Audit and agree project accounts with strong financial controls
  • Monitor contract compliance and identify non-performance or risk
  • Collaborate with stakeholders to implement corrective actions
  • Identify and manage commercial risks through the project lifecycle
  • Support resolution of claims and disputes
  • Provide commercial insight to senior stakeholders

Key requirements

  • Extensive experience managing a commercial portfolio across pre- and post-contract stages
  • Experience leading or managing a team of Quantity Surveyors
  • Degree qualification in Quantity Surveying or equivalent
  • Strong knowledge of contract administration, cost management and governance
  • Experience negotiating with contractors and suppliers
  • Experience handling variations, extensions of time, claims or dispute resolution
  • Strong understanding of project risk and ability to mitigate commercial exposure
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management
  • Strong analytical and commercial judgement
  • Self-motivated and resilient in complex project environments
  • Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel
