Overview

In this role, you lead the Global Markets Legal team for Equities, owning legal risk for the equities business and managing the relationship with the equities team. You oversee a dedicated equities lawyer and collaborate with risk and compliance to structure, negotiate, and launch equity products. You guide regulatory interpretation, and advise on new product initiatives while sustaining a strong risk culture. This position offers strategic influence across product areas, documentation, and regulatory compliance in a fast-paced environment.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee legal risk management for the Equities division and manage relations with the equities business team
  • Line-manage a dedicated Equities lawyer (VP level) and collaborate with Risk, Compliance and other stakeholders
  • Structure, negotiate, and execute a broad range of equity products (derivatives, cash and synthetic prime brokerage, margin loans, fund finance)
  • Advise on creation, structuring, regulatory analysis, and launch of new products and businesses
  • Interpret and implement regulatory changes impacting equities; communicate implications to the business
  • Support GM Legal leadership in departmental management and governance
  • Maintain awareness of market practices and document negotiation dynamics (LMA, ISDA)
  • Manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced, high-stakes environment
  • Ensure compliance with relevant legal and regulatory requirements for equity products
  • Foster cross-functional collaboration and effective stakeholder communication

Key requirements

  • Senior lawyer with experience in equities products, from private practice or investment banking
  • Strong drafting skills and familiarity with equity product documentation (LMA, ISDA)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of equity structures, securities, finance, and insolvency considerations
  • Experience managing junior lawyers and leading teams
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for diverse stakeholders
  • Ability to work independently, manage a pipeline of work, and meet deadlines
