Overview

In this role you will lead the collaborative delivery of the Local Nature Recovery Strategy for Staffordshire and Stoke-on-Trent, aligning actions with Environment Act 2021 requirements. You will work with partners across sectors to translate strategy into tangible nature recovery outcomes. You’ll represent the partnership in committees and shape environmental strategies, contributing to landscape-scale conservation. The position sits at the heart of cross-organisation collaboration to embed nature recovery into county plans.

Responsibilities

  • Act as the senior expert on nature recovery for the local authority and partnership, keeping policy knowledge up to date
  • Represent the authority and partnership in committees and bodies, presenting information to enable timely action
  • Embed environmental perspectives in internal and external strategies and lead delivery of relevant plans
  • Provide expert advice and practical support to public authorities, agencies, partners, the private and voluntary sectors
  • Lead responses to statutory and non-statutory nature recovery consultations
  • Assist Environment Manager to develop and implement LNRS delivery projects, agreeing responsibilities and programme arrangements
  • Organise and service Nature Recovery Partnership meetings, prepare reports for steering and delivery groups, and coordinate working groups
  • Support governance and update processes for LNRS approvals, briefing committees andProviding advice to Supporting Authorities
  • Coordinate internal and external colleagues to ensure LNRS delivery
  • Coordinate stakeholder engagement and consultative activities to ensure broad and ongoing involvement
  • Develop and manage funding bids and external funding where applicable
  • Ensure alignment with statutory and regulatory requirements throughout delivery

Key requirements

  • Degree level qualification in a relevant environmental discipline or equivalent experience
  • Significant experience in partnership development, stakeholder engagement and consultation
  • Experience in developing, delivering and monitoring strategy/plans
  • Experience in developing funding bids and external finance, plus financial and contract management and procurement
  • Significant project/program management experience with a track record of delivery
  • Knowledge and experience of nature conservation and nature recovery policy and practice
