Overview
In this role you will lead a Children’s Home across County Durham, ensuring high-quality, child-centred care. You’ll manage a team to meet individual needs and achieve positive outcomes, driving service improvements and preparing for regulatory inspections. The position combines strong leadership with safeguarding responsibilities within a supportive, values-driven culture. This is an opportunity to shape services, develop staff, and make a real difference in vulnerable children’s lives. You will work flexibly as part of a management rota and contribute to continuous service enhancement.

Responsibilities
- Overall day-to-day management of a Children’s Home
- Lead and develop the care team serving vulnerable children and young people
- Ensure compliance with Children’s Homes Regulations 2015 and deliver high-quality care
- Manage complex risks and safeguarding decisions to protect young people
- Drive service improvements, quality assurance, and readiness for regulatory inspections
- Oversee budgets, resources, and staff development to uphold standards
- Work flexibly across the service, including evenings and weekends on a management rota
Key requirements
- Proven leadership and management experience in a residential childcare setting
- Safeguarding expertise and strong partnership working
- Knowledge of Children’s Homes Regulations 2015, Ofsted inspections, and Regulation 44
- Excellent communication, decision-making, and risk management skills
- Ability to motivate and develop others
- Level 3 Diploma in Residential Childcare (or equivalent)
- Level 5 Diploma in Leadership and Management for Residential Childcare (or willingness to work towards within 18 months)
