Bridge Manager – Maintenance / Inspection

Overview

In this role you will lead the Avonmouth Bridge’s inspections, maintenance, and renewal programs, ensuring safety, resilience, and compliance. You will act as the main interface for the Client’s team, coordinating inspections, maintenance, and renewals while driving value for money through efficient delivery. The position combines technical leadership with line management of an operations team to keep the bridge reliable under heavy traffic. You’ll work across design, construction, and site supervision to deliver critical infrastructure improvements. Responsibilities

• Manage specialist bridge inspections, maintenance, and renewal schemes including design coordination and operational delivery
• Ensure compliance and delivery of operations in accordance with CDM Regulations
• Deliver maintenance solutions
• Deliver incident response and instant repairs
• Support delivery of renewal schemes including design, construction, and site supervision
• Ensure compliance with ISO standards including ISO31000, ISO22301, ISO9001, ISO14001
• Maintain and manage Client’s Stocks and Premises
• Implement a management system for Purple book and gantry O&M manuals
• Line management of an inspection and operations team
• Provide technical leadership to inspectors, Project Managers and delivery teams
• Coordinate all work activities to maximise productivity and value for money
• Coordinate workbanks, access, resources, and supply chains for smooth delivery and minimal disruption

Key requirements

• Significant experience in bridge management or highways engineering
• Strong technical knowledge of bridge inspection and maintenance processes
• Understanding of CDM Regulations and ISO standards
• Proven leadership abilities and team management experience
• Excellent organisational and coordination skills
• Ability to manage competing priorities and deliver operational efficiency
• Strong communication and stakeholder management skills
• Relevant engineering degree or equivalent qualification
