Commercial Officer – Defence

Overview

In this role you will support commercial, contractual and supply chain activities across a diverse project portfolio within a fast-paced SME. You will work with senior leadership, finance, delivery teams, customers and suppliers to oversee the contract lifecycle from bid support to close-out. The role combines governance, risk management and continuous improvement to optimise commercial outcomes. This opportunity offers development within a dynamic, technology-driven defence context.

Responsibilities

• Administer commercial and contractual matters across contracts and supplier agreements
• Manage contract change control and maintain contractual records
• Monitor schedules, milestones and commercial deliverables
• Ensure compliance with internal procedures and governance
• Support bid and tender submissions with commercial input
• Review customer terms, framework agreements and documentation
• Assist with drafting and negotiating contract amendments and proposals
• Collaborate with finance and delivery teams to mitigate commercial risks
• Support supplier and subcontractor engagement
• Contribute to process improvements in commercial functions

Key requirements

• Experience in commercial, contracts, procurement or bid management
• Experience across pre-contract and post-contract stages
• Knowledge of UK MOD procurement processes and competitive tendering
• Understanding of procurement stages (PINs, DPQQs, ITTs, ITNs)
• Experience drafting/negotiating standard terms and conditions
• Familiarity with change management and negotiations
• MOD contracting principles (DEFCONs) advantageous
• Experience with pre-contract agreements (MoUs, Teaming Agreements) beneficial
• Strong commercial awareness and ability to assess risk
