Job Description:

Bring your skills and compassion to our medical and surgical wards. North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust is recruiting Band 3 Healthcare Assistants to support the delivery of safe, compassionate, patient-centred care. Working alongside registered nurses and the wider clinical team, you will help patients with their everyday care needs and undertake delegated clinical duties within your training and competence. This campaign is for Band 3 appointments only. You must already hold:

  • An NVQ/QCF Level 3 qualification in a health-related subject; or
  • Demonstrable equivalent experience supported by completion of a competency-based clinical skills framework.

Shortlisted candidates will be invited to an assessment event on 24 October 2026. Candidates who meet the assessment standard will progress to interview in early November.

You will support patients’ comfort, dignity and independence, assisting with personal care, nutrition, hydration and mobility.

You will also:

  • Undertake delegated care and clinical duties within your assessed competence.
  • Maintain clear, accurate written and electronic records.
  • Communicate effective with patients, relatives and colleagues.
  • Recognise promptly report changes in patients’ condition.
  • Recognise safeguarding concerns and speak up when care or behaviour raises concerns.
  • Work within agreed protocols, recognising your responsibilities and the boundaries of your role.
  • Contribute to a safe, welcoming ward environment.

We are looking for people who demonstrate kindness, respect, honesty and a commitment to putting patients first. At North West Anglia NHS Foundation Trust, Healthcare Assistants are valued members of our multidisciplinary teams. Our medical and surgical wards offer opportunities to contribute to patient care, develop your skills and work alongside colleagues with a range of clinical expertise. You will receive induction, relevant training and support to develop the competencies required for your clinical area. Please indicate your preferred hospital site and whether you are interested in medical wards, surgical wards or either. Allocation will reflect available vacancies, your preferences and the selection outcome.

Qualification and competency evidence After submitting your application, you will receive a request to provide copies of your qualification certificates or completed clinical competency evidence by a specified deadline. If applying through the equivalent-experience route, your evidence must show the clinical skills assessed and the assessor or employer sign-off. Short online courses, attendance certificates and standalone mandatory-training certificates do not, on their own, meet the Band 3 entry requirement. A Care Certificate alone is also insufficient to demonstrate this specific requirement. Applications and supporting evidence will be reviewed before assessment invitations are issued. Providing documents does not automatically guarantee an invitation.
