Executive Technical Director

Overview

In this role you lead technology-driven transformation for clients, blending deep technical leadership with strategic thinking and client engagement. You translate business goals into technology strategies, shaping AI-enabled products and experiences at scale. You act as a CTO-level partner across regions, driving innovative solutions and ensuring governance, scalability, and impact. You will work with cross-functional teams to connect strategy, data, and technology to business outcomes.

Responsibilities

• Define and drive end-to-end technical strategy and architecture for complex ecosystems
• Design scalable, secure, cloud-native systems and champion MACH architectures
• Establish engineering standards and best practices; oversee architecture, integrations, and data flows
• Drive modern development practices (CI/CD, DevOps); collaborate with Data teams on data architecture and real-time decisioning
• Engage as a senior technology partner to clients, leading C-level strategic discussions on AI, platforms, and digital transformation
• Translate business ambitions into actionable technology roadmaps; originate opportunities and lead solution definition
• Lead technical discovery, design, and estimation for new business and pitches; convert POCs/pilots into scaled programs
• Navigate enterprise environments, identify whitespace, and define AI-led use cases and engagement models
• Define how AI transforms client business models and develop AI-driven propositions, accelerators, and repeatable offerings
• Oversee delivery across programs, mentor engineers, contribute to technical roadmap, and scale regional technology leadership
• Represent AKQA’s technology leadership in key client engagements with autonomy and authority
• Ensure responsible AI implementation including governance, scalability, and compliance

Key requirements

• Senior technology leadership experience with a proven track record in AI and platform engineering
• Ability to translate business goals into technology strategies and roadmaps; strong client-facing communication at C-level
• Experience shaping AI-led propositions and driving from use case to deployment
• Proven capability to navigate complex enterprise environments and influence diverse stakeholders
• Strong governance, scalability, and compliance mindset for AI integrations
• Fluency in modern web/application stacks and distributed systems
• Entrepreneurial, proactive, and capable of developing senior technical talent
