Overview
In this role you will shape the commercial strategy for a rail division within a major civil contractor. You will work within the pre-contract team to influence design decisions, identify risks and opportunities, and open new revenue opportunities to grow the business. The position focuses on strategic commercial leadership away from frontline delivery, with exposure to high-profile clients. You will contribute to tender wins and relationship development that underpin long-term growth.
Responsibilities
- Implement and drive the new commercial strategy for the rail business
- Influence design decisions from a commercial perspective
- Identify and manage risk and opportunity across projects
- Open and develop new commercial opportunities to expand the business
- Lead and support tendering activities and bid development
- Build and maintain relationships with high-profile clients (e.g., TfL, Network Rail, Crossrail, HS2)
- Mentor and manage a team within the commercial function
Key requirements
- Degree qualified in Quantity Surveying & Commercial Management or similar
- MRICS Chartered – highly desirable but not essential
- Main contractor experience with strong rail project delivery background
- Diverse contract experience (NEC all options, NR, bespoke etc.)
- Proven track record of strong commercial influence
- Experience in working on tenders would be advantageous
- Track record of managing a team
- Ability to build relationships with high-profile clients such as TfL, Network Rail, Crossrail and HS2
