Overview

As Associate Director/Principal Consultant, you will lead transport planning advisory for SRN development projects, guiding complex consultations and client relationships. You’ll oversee delivery of transport planning documents, mentor a team, and ensure quality, budget, and schedule adherence. This role supports strategic planning for major infrastructure networks and regulatory processes. You’ll work across cross-functional teams to shape development outcomes and deliver tangible client value in a global infrastructure firm.

Responsibilities

  • Advise on transport planning matters for sites and surroundings affecting the Strategic Road Network
  • Lead and mentor a team of transport planners, coordinating technical reviews and reports
  • Oversee complex planning consultations and manage client relationships
  • Coordinate with AECOM specialists to provide integrated advice to clients
  • Ensure quality, budget, and timeline adherence for transport planning deliverables
  • Prepare and support planning appeals, inquiries, hearings, and examinations
  • Provide technical assurance and sign-off on development management recommendations
  • Engage with stakeholders and participate in budget, resource, and KPI management
  • Support procurement and reporting obligations to senior management and clients

Key requirements

  • Degree in Transport Planning
  • Chartered membership of CIHT/TPS/CILT (preferred)
  • Extensive post-graduate experience in transport planning
  • Strong leadership and mentoring capabilities
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and interpersonal skills
  • Proven ability to manage complex transport planning projects
  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK transport planning principles, policies, and regulations
  • Experience in transport modelling (strategic and local)
  • Proficiency with transport planning tools and software
