Overview

In this role you will underwrite for the Marine Subsea portfolio, providing technical guidance to support profitable growth and market reputation for Beazley. You will work with brokers, underwriters and claims teams to tailor solutions that fit risk, pricing and capital considerations. You’ll monitor performance, ensure compliance with Beazley standards, and collaborate with clients to understand their needs while promoting Beazley’s product suite. This is a hands-on, cross-functional role with a strong focus on Subsea marine risks and cross-department collaboration.

Responsibilities

  • Underwrite and develop a profitable marine subsea portfolio, crafting tailor-made solutions within policy and parameters to win and retain business
  • Monitor premiums, costs and claims ratios at contract level and adjust as needed to sustain long-term profitability
  • Assess risk premium considering risk costs, reinsurance, capital exposure and administration costs; use rating models where applicable
  • Oversee peer underwriters and supervise assistants to maintain profitability and policy compliance
  • Ensure adherence to Beazley underwriting control standards for Lloyd’s and internal MGAs
  • Build productive relationships with claims managers and maintain client and broker communication
  • Leverage networking to standardize underwriting policy and disseminate best practices across Marine and MAP Risks
  • Produce presentations, market literature and be involved in Beazley Subsea account planning as required
  • Share knowledge across Beazley Group to maximize opportunities and profitability

Key requirements

  • Proven extensive background in marine insurance, with subsea experience preferred
  • In-depth knowledge of underwriting policy, philosophy and practice
  • Advanced understanding of underwriting processes and systems
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Proficient in MS Office with advanced Excel
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail
  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines and prioritise
  • Desirable: technical subsea marine background, commercial and financial awareness, team player with customer focus
  • Effective communication (verbal and written)
  • Client-focused with service ethics
  • Team collaboration and cross-functional cooperation
  • MS Office (advanced Excel)
  • Underwriting systems knowledge
