Overview

As Environmental Sustainability Advisor, you will support and coordinate sustainability performance across four assets, helping project teams deliver compliant and sustainable construction activities. You’ll provide practical site guidance, assurance, and reporting, driving continual improvement. Your work integrates environmental risk management, consent compliance, and sustainability data across multiple sites to inform leadership discussions and project decisions. This role offers the chance to shape site practices, mitigate environmental risk, and contribute to broader sustainability goals within the regional buildings business.

Responsibilities

  • Manage environmental risks and confirm operational controls are implemented and effective
  • Conduct planned and unplanned site inspections and track actions to close-out
  • Review RAMS, work packages, and construction methods for environmental controls
  • Monitor high-risk activities and changing works near water, ecology, waste, and dust
  • Support applications for permits and ensure teams understand conditions and interfaces
  • Coordinate monthly BBCL/BBV sustainability reporting and data validation
  • Provide environmental input to SHELT, SELT, risk reviews and leadership discussions
  • Investigate environmental incidents, support root-cause analysis, and verify corrective actions

Key requirements

  • Working knowledge of UK environmental legislation and construction compliance (pollution prevention, waste duty of care, water protection, nuisance, ecology, incident management)
  • Experience in construction site inspections, environmental assurance, RAMS review, incident investigation, and advising on practical mitigations
  • Ability to collect, validate, analyze and present environmental and sustainability data with audit trail
  • Clear written and verbal communication to engage senior leadership, site teams, clients and supply-chain partners
  • Ability to operate across multiple active sites, prioritise risks and provide timely advice
  • A suitable environmental or sustainability qualification is preferred; professional status like Registered Environmental Practitioner desirable
  • Full UK driving licence desirable for site travel
