Global Export Compliance Counsel

Overview

In this role you will advise on export controls and navigate complex geopolitical environments to support TikTok’s technology and global operations. You will work across data systems, R&D, and engineering teams to assess legal implications of product development and cross-border transfers. You will draft and negotiate trade compliance provisions, lead due diligence for M&A, and manage licensing strategies. You will build and maintain the Export Compliance Program and deliver training to reduce global trade risk. This position offers exposure to fast-paced, cross-functional collaboration with a strong emphasis on ethics and practical problem solving.

Responsibilities

• Advise stakeholders on export controls issues and provide practical solutions
• Lead international trade due diligence for M&A and strategic investments
• Draft and negotiate trade compliance provisions in commercial agreements
• Represent the company to government agencies (e.g., BIS) and manage licensing strategies
• Design and implement the corporate Export Compliance Program and internal policies
• Develop and maintain export compliance tools and processes, including automation support
• Monitor changes to export controls and assess impacts for the organization
• Conduct periodic risk assessments and address compliance gaps
• Provide training to mitigate global trade risks
• Support ad hoc Global Legal Compliance initiatives

Key requirements

• Jurist Doctorate with ABA accreditation and bar eligibility in a common law jurisdiction
• Proven export controls experience in law firms or in-house settings
• Strong knowledge of U.S. Export Administration Regulations (EAR) and related national security laws
• Experience with product, part, and component classifications under the Commerce Control List
• Ability to identify export controls issues and propose solutions
• Excellent communication, organization, and project management skills
