Overview
In this role, you lead geotechnical design and ground engineering activities within the Belfast team, contributing to major infrastructure projects across the island of Ireland and beyond. You will guide desk studies, ground investigations, and final designs, working with cross-functional teams to ensure technical quality, budget adherence, and timely delivery. The position offers mentoring responsibilities and close collaboration with clients and colleagues to shape safe, sustainable geotechnical solutions. Responsibilities
- Prepare, review, and deliver geotechnical documents (desk studies, interpretative reports, specifications, drawings, design reports)
- Provide technical input in client and team meetings and advocate for robust decisions and innovative concepts
- Prepare bids and proposals for internal and external clients
- Mentor and develop junior staff
- Lead geotechnical input across project life cycle from desk study to final design
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams across the UK & Ireland to deliver multi-year projects
- Support quality, budget, and programme control on projects
Key requirements
- BEng/MEng in Civil Engineering, Geology, Engineering Geology or Earth Science (desirable)
- Chartered Engineer (IEng/CEng) or Geologist (CGeol) status preferred or on track within a year
- Strong knowledge of UK/Ireland ground conditions and ground investigation practices
- Experience in geotechnical design and use of design software (e.g., Slope/W, Wallap)
- Familiarity with OpenGround for data management (advantageous)
- Experience producing geotechnical analysis and design packages (drawings, risk assessments, specs, reports)
- Knowledge of Eurocode, British and Irish Standards; CDM/Safety in Design
- Client relationship building, work planning, and commercial awareness
- Valid driving licence; willing to travel across Ireland and the UK
- Excellent written/verbal communication, report writing, and presentation skills
