The Role:

We are supporting a high profile public sector organisation in securing an experienced Risk Manager to lead and enhance risk and issue management across a high value, complex infrastructure portfolio. This senior role sits close to strategic decision making, providing authoritative guidance to programme leaders, governance bodies and accountable owners. You will shape consistent, evidence based risk practices, strengthen exposure management, and ensure risks and issues are escalated appropriately within a fast?paced, high profile environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and continuously improve risk and issue management across a major infrastructure portfolio, ensuring robust and consistent standards.
  • Establish proportionate, evidence based approaches to identifying, assessing, treating, monitoring and escalating risks and issues across portfolio, programme and project levels.
  • Provide expert strategic advice to senior leaders, governance groups and risk owners, supporting informed decision making.
  • Work with accountable owners to understand exposure, develop mitigation plans, identify opportunities and elevate matters beyond agreed tolerances.
  • Ensure risk insights are clearly communicated, enabling senior stakeholders to manage complexity and intervene effectively when required.
  • Support the development of risk culture, capability and governance across the wider portfolio environment.
  • Contribute to portfolio reporting, ensuring risks and issues are accurately represented and aligned with governance expectations.
  • Champion continuous improvement in risk processes, tools and behaviours.

You Will Need (Essential Requirements)

  • Extensive Risk Management experience (5+ years) within major, complex projects (£200–£500m+).
  • A recognised Risk Management qualification at Practitioner level or equivalent.
  • Membership of APM.
  • Proven ability to advise senior leaders and operate confidently in complex, high risk environments.
  • Public sector or Defence experience.
  • Experience within project controls.
  • Familiarity with NEC4 contracts.
  • Understanding of the Government Yellow Book.
