Overview

In this role you will manage the commercial performance of a rotating portfolio of rail earthworks and civils projects within a long-term CP7 framework. You will own cost forecasting, CVRs, and subcontract management, working closely with Project Managers to drive value and project performance. The position offers hybrid working and a clear path to take commercial ownership across multiple schemes. You’ll contribute to a growing rail business delivering major earthworks and civils works across the Southern region. This is a hands-on, outcome-driven opportunity with strong potential to shape commercial processes and project outcomes.

Responsibilities

  • Assume commercial responsibility for a portfolio of rail civils and earthworks projects
  • Prepare monthly CVRs and cost reports with Project Managers
  • Develop and maintain accurate project cost forecasts
  • Manage monthly accruals, liabilities and commercial reporting
  • Oversee subcontract packages from award to final account
  • Issue and administer subcontract orders using company templates
  • Supervise subcontractor valuations, payments and performance
  • Analyze subcontract quotations and provide commercial challenge for value for money
  • Handle early warnings and compensation events under NEC contracts
  • Maintain robust commercial records and support risk management
  • Collaborate with Project Managers and operations to improve commercial awareness
  • Attend project, commercial and site meetings as required
  • Foster relationships with site teams, subcontractors and stakeholders

Key requirements

  • 2–4 years’ experience as a Quantity Surveyor in a contractor or subcontractor
  • Hands-on subcontract management experience
  • Ability to prepare cost forecasts, CVRs and commercial reports independently
  • Experience managing subcontractor valuations, payments, accruals and liabilities
  • Experience reviewing and analysing subcontract quotations
  • Working knowledge of NEC contracts and exposure to early warnings and compensation events
  • Strong commercial awareness with ability to challenge decisions
